Coffee with God

I speak daily with God.
She loves me and wears great shoes.

She said I can set the past down
It’s really heavy
and not getting me anywhere.
It’s time to pack the wound and
commit to the healing of it
instead of letting it fester.

We got coffee once.
She checked her email while we waited.
When the barista called my name –
I didn’t know it was my name, but God did –
She was up and back before I could blink.
She smiled at me,
slid her phone in her purse, and
looked me directly in the eye,
Giving me her full attention.

“Now baby,” she said,
“Tell me what’s been troubling you.”
