“Love is the Spirit”

Light pours through the windows
As the church creaks and sighs,
Heavy
With the weight of countless
Joys
And sorrows.

Heavy
With the burden of
Weddings, funerals,
Dedications, ordinations,
Rituals, gladness,
And catastrophe.

She sighs as her walls swell
And her doors fly open
As from the foundation
Bursts forth
Love:

Unyielding
Abundant
Nurturing
Liberating
“Love
is the spirit of this church

And service is its law.
This is our great covenant:
To dwell together in peace
To seek the truth in love
And to help one another”
